Wisconsin Real Estate Licensing Requirements

This licensing information is designed to provide a summary of the minimum education requirements established by the Wisconsin Real Estate Examining Board. We recommend you contact the Wisconsin Real Estate Examining Board for more detailed information or changes.

Wisconsin Real Estate Apprentice Requirements

  • Must complete the 72 hour Salesperson course OR
  • Provide a transcript showing 10 academic semester-hours credit in real estate or real estate law courses completed at an accredited institution OR
  • a photocopy of current bar membership card or certificate of good standing in the WI State Bar
  • Pass the State exam given by Pearson Vue; see Wisconsin real estate license exam prep
  • Obtain a position working for a WI broker
  • Submit an application

Wisconsin Broker License Requirements

  • Must complete the 36 hour Broker course OR
  • Provide a transcript showing 20 academic semester-hours credit in real estate or real estate law courses completed at an accredited institution OR a photocopy of current bar membership card or certificate of good standing in the WI State Bar
  • Pass the State exam given by Pearson Vue; see Wisconsin real estate license exam prep
  • Apply for Licensure

Wisconsin Real Estate Education Requirements

  • The DRL requires all real estate licensees to complete 18 hours of Continuing Education (CE) each biennium. As a condition of renewal, licensees must list the date of the course, the course title, the course sponsor and the number of hours for each course completed to satisfy their CE requirements.
  • Renewing licensees must complete the four mandatory courses:
  • a) Course 1 Listing Contracts
  • b) Course 2 Offer to Purchase
  • c) Course 3 New Developments
  • d) Course 4 Buyer Agency Agreements
  • Plus two of the following electives:
  • a) Elective A Risk Reduction
  • b) Elective B 1031 Exchanges and Exchange Opportunities
  • c) Elective C Condominiums
  • d) Elective D Landlord/Tenant and Property Management
  • e) Elective E Financing the Sale
  • f) Elective F Broker Supervision
