New Jersey Real Estate Licensing Requirements

New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson Pre-License Requirements

  • Be 18 years of age
  • Be honest, trustworthy, and have integrity
  • Have a high school education or equivalency
  • Complete a 75 hour, state approved, pre-license course
  • Pass the state examination; see New Jersey real estate license exam prep
  • Apply for a license through a sponsoring real estate broker

New Jersey Real Estate Broker Pre-License Requirements

  • Be 18 years of age
  • Be honest, trustworthy, and have integrity
  • Have a high school education or equivalency
  • Complete a 75 hour, state approved, pre-license course
  • Pass the state examination; see New Jersey real estate license exam prep
  • Apply for a license through a sponsoring real estate broker

New Jersey Real Estate Continuing Education Requirements

  • Commencing on July 1, 2013, in order to qualify for renewal or to reinstate an unrenewed license after that date, every individual licensed as a broker, broker-salesperson or salesperson must complete 12 hours of CE.
  • At least six of the twelve credits must be obtained in courses within the “core topics,” specified at N.J.A.C. 11:5-12.4. The six shall include at least 2 credit hours on ethics. The remainder can be electives.

New Jersey Real Estate Reciprocal License Requirements

  • New Jersey does not have reciprocity with any state.
